Abstract

The single element antenna was unable to meet the radiation pattern, gain, and directivity requirements for some applications. By combining multiple antennas—generally referred to as an antenna array—suitable solutions can be found. This paper presents the design, fabrication and testing of a linear microstrip patch antenna array (1x4) to covervarious ISM frequency band from 855MHz to 5GHz. ADS software was used to design, modeland finally manufacture the linear antenna array. A return loss of roughly -34dB was attained during testing of the constructed antenna using a network analyzer. It was discovered that the radiation pattern obtained was narrow, making it suitable for use in applications for smart antennas.
