Abstract

Cardiac disease is a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. Mitralstenosis is the most common form with increased pregnancy and deliverycomplications for both mother and neonate. During pregnancy physiologicalhemodynamic changes of the circulation are the main cause of mitral stenosisdecompensation. Morbidly adherent placenta is a serious complication ofpregnancy and is associated with massive intrapartum hemorrhage and highmaternal morbidity and mortality. The case under discussion is of a recentlydiagnosed patient with severe mitral stenosis and placenta previa who waseffectively managed in a tertiary care setting inspite of having both cardiac andobstetric life threatening situations with a outcome comparable to a normalpatient.
